Some authors of medical articles or books have something to say, but cannot write intelligibly. Others write well but have nothing to tell. To the compulsive reader, Sidney Licht is a paragon. His pages alone would be worth the price of purchase of this volume. Read from the preface: "... it is difficult to explain some reported effects of ultrasound on the basis of heat alone. It is also difficult to repeat all the reported effects of ultrasound." Or from the chapter, "History of Therapeutic Heat," discussing a sadistic-sounding prescription by Celsus, "However, it is questionable whether Celsus ever did this, since, although we have proof that he was an informed writer, we have none that he ever practiced medicine."
