This volume which records the papers presented at the Second International Congress on Hyperbaric Oxygenation was a pleasant surprise to this reviewer who has been impressed by the almost uniformly poor quality of multiauthored texts that result from the publication of most symposia proceedings. In contrast, this volume is excellently organized, and the writing is generally concise and lucid in spite of the large number of contributors. There is an absolute minimum of repetition of material in different papers and little or no rehash of work already amply reported in the medical literature. The graphic illustrations are abundant, informative, and excellently reproduced. Even the discussions of papers are interesting and informative and convey a feeling of the enthusiastic investigative and intellectual ferment that pervades this area of research.
