Nutrition and Physical Fitness has had seven previous editions. Each has been an able presentation of nutritional knowledge available at the time of publication, but none has been more or less interesting and useful than other textbooks written for the beginning student. In this, the eighth edition, the senior author has recognized contemporary trends in nutrition: the shift in emphasis from the whole organism to the metabolism of the cell, and a movement away from a preoccupation with our own problems to the nutritional difficulties of the world. As a consequence, she has recruited Dr. George M. Briggs and Dr. Doris Howes Calloway, both of the Department of Nutritional Sciences, University of California, as co-authors. The results is indeed a happy marriage.
