Abstract

This volume is in essence a transcription of the Second Catecholamine Symposium which was held in Milano, Italy, July 4 to 9, 1965. It is a summary of the significant recent research in the field of catecholamine metabolism since the previous symposium in 1958. Papers from a variety of scientists comprising virtually all the experts in the field are included in this symposium. It starts with a beautiful introduction by Dr. U. S. Von Euler who reviews the 20 years' history of noradrenalin.

There are eight major sections on enzymology, metabolic effects of catecholamines, measurements and detection of catecholamines and related compounds, properties of adrenergic tissues, adrenergic transmission, modification of sympathetic function, catecholamines and the circulatory system, and finally, adrenergic mechanism and the nervous system. Each section has roughly ten papers and there is a summary of discussion and commentary which greatly enhances the value for the nonspecialist in this
