In this fourth edition of an already well-established book, Wells and Halsted have perpetrated an unusual but welcome crime. They have stated succinctly and honestly in the book title exactly what the book is about. Although either author might deny being a clinical pathologist (since both are admired and respected as practitioners and teachers of medicine), they have also provided what is probably the shortest definition extant of "Clinical Pathology." Pathologists are coming more and more to realize that efficient administration of medical laboratories and careful control over the data produced "do not a clinical pathologist make."
