Phonocardiography and external pulse recording have been the subject of numerous recent publications. The correlation of this technique with hemodynamic studies, angiocardiography, and cardiovascular surgery has transformed the "art" of bedside cardiovascular examination into a precise and challenging clinical exercise.
This book represents the most comprehensive treatise of the subject of phonomechanocardiography (phonocardiography and external pulse recording) published to date. It is well organized and easy to read. The first section covers basic aspects of sound and pulse recording. A discussion of the normal heart sounds, precordiograms, phlebograms, and arterial pulse recordings leads to what the author calls "External Chronodinocardiometry." In chronodinocardiometry the analysis of simultaneous external recording of heart sounds, precordial movements, and peripheral venous and arterial pulsations is correlated with simultaneously occurring intracardiachemodynamic phenomena. Abnormal heart sounds ("clicks," "gallops," "murmurs," and "rubs") are covered separately in individual chapters. Heart disease is discussed in the second half of the
