The number of pages, 243 in all, with 148 illustrations give the initial impression that the information contained within such space could be only of limited scope. Far from it; the monograph is superb in clarity and conciseness, and is completely up-to-date. Each chapter, 12 altogether, conveys all that the student, house officer, physician, and even cardiologist should know of cardiovascular physiology. A limited number of well-selected references supplementing the text should satisfy the more curious reader. More recently developed thoughts and a fine selection of illustrations and drawings from many sources are well integrated into the text.
The teaching value of this brief text is great. The selection of information contained is well done doing away with most excess "fat." I recommend this book to students, physicians, and even cardiologists alike. The text is lucid and pertinent, the illustrations informative, and the printing of excellent quality.
