This is an impressive, expensive tome. It represents an exhaustive review of diseases of anus, rectum, and colon, and their surgical management. Revisions since the first edition are concerned with ulcerative colitis, regional ileitis, treatment of hemorrhoids, anal fissures, and anorectal abscesses and fistulae. The text is liberally illustrated, and an ample current bibliography follows each chapter. This is a remarkable single-authored text with a section on physiology written by H. L. Duthie. This is a must-have item for general surgeons, gastroenterologists, and oncologists.
