This monograph is a transcript of the proceedings of the Fourth Pfizer International Symposium held in Edinburgh from May 15 to 17, 1968. Its international flavor was dampened somewhat by budget limitations, and most Archives readers will be startled by the dearth of American participants. Nevertheless, a galaxy of authorities was gathered from Great Britain and the continent, and the end product provides a useful reference (if not a definitive exposition) on malabsorption. As in any work of this nature involving multiple authors, the papers are not of uniform quality; in some instances, exciting new basic work is presented; other papers are of a review nature; in one or two instances, the symposium would appear to have been simply a forum for presentation of pet projects. The monograph appears to have been hurriedly assembled which exaggerates the unevenness.
