The Contemporary Neurology Series is a popular new publication in which the present volume is the sixth. The series began with a most auspicious and valuable issue entitled, The Diagnosis of Stupor and Coma, by Plum (the editor of the series) and Posner. It is highly recommended to our students and house officers. Since then the value of each volume has decreased somewhat up to the present offering, which is different from its predecessors in that it covers four totally unrelated fields in monograph form. These are derived from reviews of recent advances in neurology presented as an annual course by the American Academy of Neurology; they were selected because of their provocative nature since they represented largely unsolved problems in clinical neurology.

The four monographs are entitled "Spasticity and Rigidity" by William M. Landau, "Slow and Chronic Virus Infections of the Nervous System" by Richard T. Johnson and Kenneth
