This is a first edition with 72 contributors; it is small and compact with 32 chapters covering virtually all aspects of pediatrics in a brief outline form. The format is similar to other contemporary pediatric textbooks with chapters devoted to diseases of specific organ systems and anatomical sites, the newborn, growth and development, collagen diseases, allergy, poisoning, and diseases caused by viruses, rickettsiae, bacteria, fungi, and parasites. Exceptionally current and comprehensive are the chapters on the newborn, endocrine organs, metabolic diseases, heart and great vessels, abdomen and gastrointestinal tract, emergencies, trauma, and poisoning. Schematic drawings and illustrations are used liberally to clarify points and enhance understanding of certain disease processes. Tables are used freely to present information and data in an orderly fashion. Most chapters are well referenced and list older, classic studies as well as those most current.
