This is another in the splendid Modern Treatment series. The first section is edited by John P. Utz of Richmond who, with nine collaborators, tackles the vexing area of systemic mycoses. As is customary in this series, there is heavy stress on diagnosis and therapy. The articles are frank in their discussion of the many problems and frustrations in the diagnosis and management of systemic mycoses. However, the overall flavor is optimistic.
The sharing symposium is on disorders of calcium metabolism edited by Gilbert S. Gordan of San Francisco with eight co-authors. Individual essays span the entire subject, including diseases of the parathyroids, renal contributions to calcium perturbations, and intestinalmalabsorption problems. This is a most current review of the management of calcium metabolic difficulties. As is typical of all books in this series, the discussions are crisp, pertinent, and current.
