Transplantation Today is a compilation of papers presented at the Third International Congress of the Transplantation Society, The Hague, September 7-11, 1970. In addition to an introduction and summary, there are eight sections: surveys of important issues in transplantation, transplantation antigens, tissue and organ transplantation, tissue and organ preservation, transplantation biology, immunosuppression, fundamental transplantation immunology, and perspectives in transplantation. There are 236 short papers which range in scope from organ donor selection and management of rejection in allografted kidneys to graft rejection in earthworms and testicular transplantation in the rat. Basic or clinical investigations covering transplantation of every organ system are included.
This book is obviously meant for serious students of transplantation who can digest this rather massive summary of current investigational approaches. The neophyte may benefit from selected papers carefully read, but would probably make a better investment by beginning elsewhere. Internists who help care for transplant patients can
