Abstract

This treatise is an excellent and comprehensive presentation of a tool and technique which has been used for many years in Europe and which is only now being embraced enthusiastically by obstetricians and gynecologists in the United States.

The narrative portion is lucid and very nicely correlates colposcopic appearance and histologic patterns with suggested clinical management. The "jargon" of the colposcopist is well-defined as are certain interesting concepts of preneoplasia and the "T zone" which are quite logical though at some variance with the thinking and teaching of many authorities in the area of cervical disease.

Two relative deficiencies are apparent. The first is that there is no specific correlation given in most cases between the more than 200 colposcopic illustrations and the corresponding histologic diagnosis. This would certainly have been of interest and comfort to the individual contemplating expenditure of significant time and money to embrace an approach that
