The changing fields of pulmonary disease and cardiology and growing interest in the heart-lung interface make a text which deals with modern topics and advances particularly attractive. This third edition includes not only chapters on new developments but newly written chapters on common clinical pulmonary and cardiac problems encountered by the practitioner. Most chapters deal with structure and function and their interrelationships as a basis for understanding disease processes and possibilities in management.
The 53 chapters are written mostly by well-recognized authorities in their respective fields and are current, representing recent advances in research and thought. Excellent chapters on pediatric respiratory problems are included. Discussions on diffusion and blood gas exchange are particularly good as are the disease-oriented chapters dealing with chronic lung diseases.
The excellent charts and extremely good illustrations make this a handsome and interesting text. All but one chapter are nicely referenced and together include a wealth
