This compact volume is the published record of the eighth annual symposium of the Society for the Study of Inborn Errors of Metabolism which met in Belfast in 1971 to discuss the specific area of the inherited disorders of sulphur metabolism. As expected in this type of volume, some redundancy occurs since several authors discuss similar data, and the presentations are uneven with the usual high and low spots. Most of the information presented has been available in the literature for some time, but is well summarized in this volume.
The book contains most of the up-to-date information concerning the various defects in sulphur metabolism and current concepts of treatment. In general, each article has an excellent bibliography, and is excellent source material for a rapid review of the subject area. Investigators not familiar with the general area will likely find the book somewhat slow reading because of the overlap
