One cannot help but be impressed by the remarkably broad scope of topics that are subsumed by the title Hormonal Steroids. This large and impressive volume, the "Proceedings of the Third International Congress on Hormonal Steroids," includes the papers presented in 30 symposia, as well as in eight plenary lectures. Topics covered range from comparative endocrinology to the side effects of contraceptive steroids, and from steroid biosynthesis to cancer therapy. Each area is dealt with by a series of three to five short papers by leading researchers in the particular field.

Clinicians will not want this book for their home libraries, but they would find several of the sections quite relevant to their practice of medicine and would obtain fascinating previews of the medicine of the future. Of particular interest to the practicing physician are the sections on steroid hypertension, endocrinedependent tumors, and uses and effects of contraceptive steroids. The
