This anatomy text of the lymphatics is based on studies of surgical pathological specimens cleared of fat. There are only 17 pages devoted to history of the knowledge of the lymphatic system and methods of study. The remainder presents the anatomy of the lymphatic system in the various major surgical sites, including head and neck, intrathoracic, breast, upper extremity, trunk, lower extremity, and large intestine. The book is deficient in newer knowledge of the anatomy of the lymphatic system (based on studies of lymphangiography), which techniques will be primarily of interest to internists. There is little information on more recent findings of electronmicroscopy and physiological functions of the lymphatics. For instance, the central nervous system is not mentioned, although there is some information on surgical technique and some results of surgical therapy of cancer.
