This book is easily one of the most useful and practical references to be published in some time. It comes as a welcome resource for the pediatrician, obstetrician, and primary care physician who are daily frought with questions concerning maternally consumed drugs and their effects on the fetus and breast-feeding infant. This book contains a discussion of 494 commonly used drugs, well indexed with generic and trade names (American and foreign), and a summary of the current pharmacologic knowledge of each drug. Each drug is discussed in the monograph, including a fetal-risk summary, a breast-feeding summary, appropriate references, and a risk-factor designation that catagorizes each drug according to its potential risk, using Food and Drug Administration guidelines. The monographs are concise, well written, and easy to read. The authors should be congratulated on this well-conceived, practical book that should serve as an invaluable resource.
