Abstract

To the Editor.  —In the article by Landesman and Vieira,1 I question the statement appearing on page 2308: "There are only four cases of AIDS among health care personnel wherein acquisition of the disease could be attributed to contact with patients with AIDS or clinical specimens from patients with AIDS."Researchers involved with AIDS, as well as representatives from the Centers for Disease Control task force, have repeatedly emphasized that the four cases of AIDS among health care personnel were not attributed to contact with patients with AIDS.This statement has threatened the credibility of our Infection Control Department and the advice given to our employees concerning this problem. Please clarify this important issue.
