To the Editor. —
I appreciated the letter written by Platt,1 who pointed out that the new database published last year in the Archives2 is, in his opinion, "flawed." In fact, responding to feedback both by users and reviewers, we had already added a section immediately after the "Chief Complaint" and "History of Present Illness" titled "Other Active Diseases" (OADs).We now have the database organized pretty much as Platt recommends in the last paragraph of his letter; however, we have included "Major Past Medical Events" under "Risk Factor Assessment" because we believe that past medical events are worth cataloging only if they are useful in identifying a potential recurrent or future problem.Again, Platt's comments were well taken, and I offer to any one who wishes to write to me a copy of the New Medical Database that has been, as of July 1, 1991, introduced as
