In his article on Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia in the elderly,1 Marrie could have discussed the pneumonias associated with bradycardia that several of his patients demonstrated. Besides M pneumoniae pneumonia, legionnella,2 psittacosis and tularemia, and Salmonella infection3 have been associated with bradycardia. Without evidence for A-V nodal disease, sick sinus syndrome, and β- or calcium-blocker use, taking the pulse may be useful in directing attention to those organisms associated with bradycardia.
