Golden argues that Cartesian mind/body dualism is an outmoded concept. We agree, and have previously made the same argument.1 However, we also believe that many physicians, scientists, and patients still hold to the view that a disease is not "real" (meaning biologically based) unless some objective abnormality is associated with it. Our language addressed people who hold that traditional view.
