Choi and colleagues1 found an independent inverse association between low-fat dairy consumption and incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus. A plausible explanation of this beneficial association, which was not considered in the study,1 might also be related to the marked inhibitory effect on iron absorption of milk products.2-4
