There has been an ongoing discussion about suitable and sensitive tools to identify individuals with an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Wilson et al1 recently developed a model for the prediction of incident diabetes in middle-aged adults using data from the Framingham Offspring Study. They conclude that information from a typical clinic visit adds to T2DM prediction beyond personal awareness of diabetes risk factors and developed a simple clinical model, which should be tested in another population to validate their approach.1
