At first glance this appears to be a rather small book for such a large topic, but it contains 835 pages of text and an extensive index. Each author has professorial rank in the Woman's Medical College of Philadelphia or in the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Slightly more than half of the text was written by Dr. Pastor. Of the 240 illustrations 26 are drawings or charts, and the remainder are admirable photographic reproductions of electrocardiograms and x-ray films.
I began the reading of this volume with the expectation that it might be a wearisome task. It is pleasant to report that it was a delightful and rewarding experience. So far as I can judge, the text is sound and accurate up to the moment of publication; many quite recent developments are included. It was to be expected that the three authors might differ greatly in the clarity
