When the first edition of this book appeared in 1967, it stood alone as a source text in which a variety of conditions, both rare and common, affecting the nervous system through dysfunction of the vascular system were described in significant detail. The approach of Dr James F. Toole, who has made giant contributions to the field of stroke care for over a half-century, is pretty much adhered to in this modernized edition, which includes new information in several areas (including the genetics of stroke). Drs Roach, Bettermann, and Biller have not only assembled extensive and serviceable text but provided many more figures, illustrations, and images that are pertinent to the disease. They have also done a good job providing recent updates on progress in the field.
