Almost 21 years ago, Dreifuss1 reviewed the state of epilepsy prevention in this journal. He anticipated a quarter century of advances in the understanding of the neurobiological mechanisms and prevention of epileptogenesis. He also identified theoretically preventive strategies such as immunizations, optimizing maternal health, preventing early teenage pregnancies with their increased risk for premature and low-weight infants, increasing the use of helmets for sports and transportation, preventing falls among elderly individuals, and ending boxing in high schools.
