The American Academy of Neurology Workforce Task Force reported that the current demands for neurology services have already exceeded the supply of practitioners, and yet an upward trend in the demand continues.1 In 2012, the average wait time for new patients to see a general neurologist was 34.8 business days, compared with 28.1 business days in 2010.2 The discrepancy between supply and demand offers an opportunity to develop team–based models of care that integrate advanced practice clinicians (APCs) to collectively provide high-quality neurological care.
