A right-handed male adolescent presented with a history of staring spells and headache for the past 2 years. Episodes typically lasted for 5 minutes, with no head deviation or tonic-clonic movements. Some of the episodes were associated with an abnormal shrieking sound and stiffening of the body. There was no history of memory loss. His seizure semiology results were consistent with dyscognitive focal complex partial seizures. His birth and developmental history were unremarkable. No focal neurologic deficits were seen on examination. A computed tomography head study yielded normal results. An awake electroencephalogram did not show any abnormality.
