There are an estimated 68.5 million people who are displaced globally, including 40 million internally displaced persons, 25.4 million refugees, and 3.1 million asylum seekers.1 According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees,1 this equates to 44 000 people forcibly displaced daily in 2017. Today, there are multiple humanitarian emergencies in the world, such that the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees works in more than 125 countries.1
