In Reply We have read with great interest the letter by Sotirchos et al commenting on our study1 that assessed biological and methodological aspects of brain volume loss in multiple sclerosis. Considering the growing role of mixed-effects models for accounting for repeated measures in longitudinal studies, we thank the authors for highlighting a key methodological aspect of these models.
