She didn’t get out of her pajamas all day and seemed a little depressed, but that was it. I know this woman well, and certainly better than most physicians will ever know their patients. My grandmother is just a little down.

Five weeks later, I get off of work early on a Friday and brave the 2-hour traffic from Los Angeles to Orange County, California, to see my patient. She’s not in her pajamas, but she doesn’t get up to greet me. She can’t. She’s fallen 3 times this week already.
