This volume contains 10 chapters which review a variety of subjects of neurological interest. Lord Brain presents a concise summary of current concepts of mechanisms of consciousness and of the cerebral basis of mind with a well-selected bibliography. Another chapter is devoted to basal ganglia disorders with only brief reference to the medical management of Wilson's disease and the surgical treatment of involuntary movements. A chapter devoted to the cerebral circulation includes reference to the recent English literature regarding the difficulties in evaluating anticoagulant and surgical treatment of cerebrovascular disease. There is an excellent review of the diverse manifestations of cervical spondylosis and of the carpal tunnel syndrome. It is regrettable that sections devoted to complex subjects such as the myopathies and benign intracranial hypertension are so brief. There is a concise review of the neurological aspects of malignant disease including carcinomatous neuropathy and myopathy. There are three excellent chapters
