This is a fascinating book which contains over 50 classical papers from the neurosurgical literature. Each paper has been reprinted in its original form except for those from the foreign literature which have been translated. The reproduction of this material by the publisher (Johnson Reprint Corporation) is excellent throughout. Doctor Wilkins, the editor of this volume, has conducted an extensive search of the literature for he includes articles by less well-known surgeons such as Durante and Wagner and has not restricted his choice only to those with more familiar names. He has arranged the articles so that they fall into various categories. The first group is chosen from the field of basic experimental and clinical investigation. This is followed by a group of papers describing the first contrast studies. The remaining articles give the first descriptions of a variety of surgical procedures and techniques.
