THIS neurology study was undertaken under a contract between the National Institute of Neurological Diseases and Blindness (NINDB) and Columbia University. Its purpose was to study in depth (1) personnel, (2) administration, (3) financial support, (4) teaching and research in the discipline of neurology, which includes clinical neurology and the basic neurological sciences.
The method of study included visits with members of the administration and members of the faculty in the discipline of neurology at all medical school-related installations and at other indicated places. Data obtained through these visits were augmented by computer studies, made possible by the American Medical Association (AMA), which gave access to the doctor registration cards with information the AMA had recently transferred to electronic tape. A New York city office at 475 Riverside Drive, Suite 1742, has served as a base of operation. It was opened in September 1962 and is expected to continue
