Abstract

Style of References.—  In cooperation with many other medical publications, following a series of conferences among interested editors, the Archives is changing the style and format to be used in publishing reference material. The modified style, to appear soon in the Archives, follows that used by Index Medicus. The major changes are these: punctuation is reduced to a minimum; in titles of journal articles, only the initial word is capitalized (except in some foreign languages); when there are four or more authors, the first three names are given, followed by "et al."The basic content and sequence of items remains the same; month (or week) of publication is omitted in journal references.Example of a journal article:1. Fine RN, Brennan LP, Edelbrock HH, et al: Use of pediatric cadaver kidneys for homotransplantation in children. JAMA 210:477-484, 1969.Example of a book:2. Morgan WL, Engel GL: The Clinical Approach
