The publication, like the population explosion, is something to which some become resigned, but others advocate drastic measures to curb it. The present volume lists 3,044 references and is a determined attempt to review the flood of recent papers dealing with the physical or chemical therapy of schizophrenia. There are 68 pages of text and 85 devoted to references. The older methods of insulin coma, electroconvulsive therapy, and surgical treatment for schizophrenia occupy an infinitesimal part of the book, the bulk of which is devoted to the effect of drugs on this disease. This volume is proof for the often quoted definition of a drug which is a substance, when injected into an animal, produces a paper. This list of the literature on psychotherapeutic drugs does not seem selective, but perhaps it leads one to suspect that there is not much more than a difference in name rather than efficacy
