Myotonic Periodic Paralysis Improved by Negative Sodium Balance

Abstract

A patient with myotonic periodic paralysis improved when he had a negative sodium balance. Potassium balance and serum potassium level did not correlate with his clinical condition. This raises the possibility that sodium distribution across the muscle membrane is of importance in the pathogenesis of this condition.
