This 517-page textbook is concerned with newer aspects in the surgical management of intracranial and extracranial vascular anastomoses, aneurysms, and arteriovenous anomalies exclusive of intracranial clipping or excision, extracranial approaches to basal brain tumors, intracranial approaches to deep midline tumors, congenital CNS anomalies, spinal bone and disk pathology, and intractable pain. The topics are discussed, in reference to indications, operative technique, and results, by 41 contributing authors, each having extensive experience and demonstrated expertise in his or her area. The book has 337 illustrations, 39 tables, and is well referenced, allowing the reader to obtain additional source material.

The book accomplishes the authors' intention to update and critically review many of the newer technological advances in neurological surgery. Of particular interest are the sections concerned with the operative approaches to tumors located at the basal areas of the skull, which have resulted in lowered surgical mortality and morbidity.
