Abstract

• The evaluation of the modern concept of CSF physiology has been followed from Galen to Magendie. The correct and incorrect aspects of the major descriptions of CSF by Galen, Vesalius, Willis, Lower, and Holder have been described. The tremendous impact of Magendie on physiology in general has been related to the effect of his misconceptions on previous concepts of CSF physiology.
