To the Editor.  —The report by McComus et al1 is of interest. However, I think the more common cause of episodic unresponsiveness associated with cyanosis and postictal disorientation is a seizure disorder that may not have been manifest in this patient because of quadriparesis. I see no evidence in the report that he had an EEG to rule out this possibility, and, despite the elegant speculation about the cause of his symptoms, a more common cause need not have been excluded.
