Abstract

To the Editor.  —In their otherwise excellent review of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, the authors1 incorrectly refer to neurons in Onuf's nucleus as being parasympathetic. These neurons are probably a special class of somatic motor neurons and innervate the striated muscles of the anal and urethral sphincters.2 The sacral parasympathetic neurons are situated more dorsally in the intermediolateral cell column.
