Abstract

This third edition of Volpe's classic text on neurology of the newborn maintains and expands the high standard set by previous volumes. The first edition in 1981 and the second in 1987 brought together a large amount of information about the fetus and neonate from diverse sources and disciplines and presented it in an understandable and user-friendly format. Professionals working with neonates were grateful then, and they will appreciate this edition even more. Clinical and experimental studies on neonates and their neurology have burgeoned during the past 25 years, as has a virtual revolution in the care of the high-risk neonate. Volpe has been at the forefront of this growing specialty within pediatric neurology, and this text presents a synthesis of those events from his learned perspective.
