The authors present an up-to-date summary of the approach to diagnosis and management of childhood seizures for the pediatrician, family physician, and primary care physician. They do this in 19 chapters ranging from the epidemiology of seizures and epilepsy in children to the role of the pediatrician in the care of epilepsy. Included are chapters on febrile and neonatal seizures, classification, epileptic syndromes, evaluation, prognosis, and treatment, including that for status epilepticus. Each chapter stands on its own, and there is excellent cross referencing and remarkably little overlap. The chapters are all short and do not address any topic in detail. They offer a nice overview of each subject and a short list of key references for those wishing to know more. The chapters on nonepileptic events, antiepileptic drug therapy, and epileptic syndromes are especially well written and useful.
