Arch Neurol. 2002;59(2):319. doi:

by Robert C. Green, MD, MPH, $21.95, 223 pp, Caddo, Okla, Professional Communications Inc, 2001.

Dr Green has written a comprehensive textbook on dementing illnesses that he and the publisher hope will find an audience among primary care physicians. The pocket-sized book is divided into 4 sections. The first section provides a background of definitions, epidemiology, the diagnostic process, and information on dementias other than Alzheimer disease. The second section is devoted to Alzheimer disease and discusses risk factors, genetics, biomarkers, natural history, and neuropathology. A third section contains a chapter on current and emerging therapies as well as chapters on pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic management of the neuropsychiatric symptoms of Alzheimer disease. The final section provides a list of resources for clinicians. The book is organized into a traditional disease-oriented rather than a problem-oriented structure. This arrangement may not be ideal for physicians who are not familiar with much of the subject matter.
