This is the fourth edition of one of the standard textbooks in neurocritical care. The publication of the new edition is timely since the founding of the Neurocritical Care Society in 2003 and its corresponding journal. This volume should not be considered a textbook of general critical care because it is limited in scope. However, many fine textbooks exist that include the entire spectrum of critical care with more complete discussions of ventilation, treatment of arrhythmias, infection, and myocardial infarction, for which this book is the ideal companion.
