This is the second edition of this text originally published in 1994. The book provides a good overview of the field of medical and surgical neurotology. There are 141 contributing authors covering topics in 11 major topic sections.

There is an introductory section on the history of the field including skull base surgery. The first section includes chapters on anatomy, physiology, and histology of the auditory and vestibular systems followed by a chapter on genetics in neurotology that reviews genetic hearing loss but not the genetics of episodic ataxia and vertigo syndromes.
