The last edition of the famous work by Plum and Posner was in 1980 and the fourth edition is now available. In the last quarter of a century, the field of neurology has developed enormously with regard to the knowledge of pathophysiological processes as well as diagnostic and therapy possibilities. Magnetic resonance imaging, which had been an unimaginable possibility, has advanced our knowledge of cerebral dysfunctions tremendously. This book is based on a proven foundation but has also successfully taken into account these new developments without losing the original character of the book. The authors have also integrated original contributions from Fred Plum.
