To the Editor In their Editorial about the recently published Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Guideline on opioid prescribing, Fisch and Chang state that, “Opioid use in cancer care and end-of-life care were excluded from the guidelines.”1(p862) It may stand corrected that the recent CDC opioid guideline only excluded cancer survivors in “active cancer treatment” from its scope.2 The CDC guideline is very much intended for cancer survivors who experience chronic cancer pain. Thus, this Editorial about safe, effective, and affordable care for cancer survivors with chronic unrelieved pain is relevant and timely.
